Annual Salary and Benefits Package (2018-2019 School Year)

Base Salary: US$ 54,642 - 82,392 (Educational Supplement for MA: US$ 3,571 and DOC: US$ 7,857)

Retirement: 20% of base salary, subject to a maximum annual contribution of US$ 10,285

Maximum initial placement Step 8; All columns of salary schedule range from Step 1 to 22

Reports to: Executive Director of Curriculum and Assessment

Type of position: Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)

Duration of Assignment: Four years with an initial two-year contract

Job Overview

Working with faculty, teacher leaders, and division administrators, the TOSA plans, organizes, and promotes various requirements necessary for the implementation of personalized learning. The primary work will focus on completion of competency-based curriculum and assessments across all grade levels at SAS while developing, facilitating, and providing related training for faculty. This work will also include looking at how evidence is used for both development and effective implementation of the curriculum. The TOSA serves on appropriate committees and task forces, assists teams with development of units and assessments aligned to the SAS personalized learning strategy, and facilitates the implementation of a learning platform for macro and micro data needs.The TOSA will assist with the implementation of each component of the personalized learning strategy and acts as an advocate for appropriate curricular and assessment changes and modifications.

Qualifications and experience

Equivalent to the completion of an earned Master of Arts or higher degree program from an accredited college or university in educational administration, instructional supervision, curriculum and instruction or a closely related field

Five years of successful teaching experience

Demonstrated experience in:
developing standards-based and competency-based curriculum and assessment

developing and implementing systems for the capture, analysis, visualization, and use of data

leading complex initiatives requiring new thinking, change leadership, and building coalitions of support.

designing, implementing, and assessing the impact of initiatives

Preferred Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of and experience with the principles and practices associated with:

personalized learning

competency-based learning progressions and customized learning pathways,

flexible learning environments

standards-based/ competency-based curriculum

disciplinary standards, cross-disciplinary standards, and interdisciplinary learning

standards based/ competency-based assessment including balanced assessment practices, development of performance tasks, and standards-based grading practices

standards-based/ competency-based instruction including Universal Design for Learning, self-paced courses, hybrid learning, and practices that promote personalized learning

how technology intersects with and supports curriculum, assessment, and instruction

vertically articulating curriculum between grades and between divisions

Ability to work independently exercising sound judgment and initiative in implementing tasks and recognizing problems

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with adults

Ability to use adult learning theory to shape professional development offerings

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Specific responsibilities include:
Researches new and innovative practices specifically related to personalized learning

Researches curriculum and assessment practices specifically related to competency-based learning

Develops, plans and coordinates curriculum and assessments for the purpose of implementing a competency-based learning system to support personalized learning

Establishes systems to assess readiness levels of teachers to implement personalized learning practices

Collaborates with grade level and/or department teams to design innovative and effective personalized learning curriculum and assessments for all students

Collaborates with grade level and/or department teams to build learning pathways that provide students with the ability to co-plan his/her learning

Researches and identifies macro-data trends at the system level

Researches and identifies micro-data trends at the classroom/student level

Develops systems to best leverage data currently collected, and develops new data sources to support personalized learning

Builds teacher capacity to manage real-time student data

Consults with administrators and coaches for the purpose of implementing, supporting, and monitoring the SAS personalized learning approach

Designs/conducts diverse professional development for the purpose of implementing personalized learning, including competency-based learning

Designs/conducts parent education for the purpose of building community understanding of personalized learning, including competency-based learning

Acts as an advocate for appropriate curricular and assessment changes and modifications
