An exciting opportunity is now open in the Bruker Daltonics division for an Applications Scientist – Mass Spectrometry (MS) in Singapore, to be based at a key customer site as part of an important collaboration. The position will predominantly be working on customer projects, however the position will also provide instrument demonstrations & sample analyses for prospective customers, and applications & technical support and trainings to other customers in Singapore and on occasion other countries in Asia-Pacific. The position requires a strong background in Mass Spectrometry, having both ESI-MS (Q-TOF MS) and MALDI-TOF MS experience is preferred.


  • To become an expert in running Bruker’s ESI-Q-TOF MS and Imaging MALDI-TOF MS systems, through extensive training (local & international), on-the-job learning and using prior experience.
  • Perform data analysis with statistical and bioinformatics software tools
  • Liaise closely with key customer site scientists to become integral in their research projects in order to drive the mass spectrometry research component of each project
  • Be involved in publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals with key customer site scientists
  • Participate in grant proposal preparation with key customer site scientists
  • Participate in the general laboratory and Bruker MS instrument maintenance, maintaining the Bruker MS instruments in peak performing condition
  • Document all experimental records and file reports
  • Perform demonstrations to/sample analyses for prospective customers using on-site Bruker MS instrumentation and provide expert advice to customers during the sales process, focusing on how Bruker system solutions will address and benefit the customer’s needs
  • Ensure that the Bruker MS instrumentation, analysis and customer demonstrations are properly prepared, in order to guarantee the highest level of customer experience in a timely manner
  • Perform on-site trainings and mentoring on Bruker instrumentation and software to other users, both at key customer site and other external sites. Training can include hands on instrument training and class room teaching
  • Provide MS application and method development support for customers. Perform customer support including phone & email support, as well as travel to customer sites for on-site support
  • Perform training courses on MS instrumentation and software for customers and in-house staff/dealers (including engineers and other service support staff) as necessary
  • Develop and maintain technical expertise on Bruker’s MS systems & software products
  • Perform and assist in the production of manuals, marketing materials and other documentation as necessary
  • Attend applicable conferences representing Bruker and deliver oral and/or poster presentations including at Bruker workshops/seminars
  • Monthly reporting of activities
  • Participating in Bruker-internal trainings via webex to keep knowledge current


  • Masters degree or Ph.D degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry or related field is a pre-requisite
  • Minimum 3-years of hands-on user experience in operating ESI-MS (preferably Q-TOF MS) instrumentation and MALDI-TOF MS instrumentation. Experience with Bruker MS instrumentation is considered an advantage. Imaging MALDI-TOF MS experience/knowledge is further desirable. Core laboratory working experience is particularly useful

Language Skills

Excellent communications skills in oral and written English, must be able to write at an advanced scientific level

Computer Skills:

Relevant office related software packages required such as Word processing, Excel and Powerpoint. Specific knowledge of the operating software for Bruker Daltonics Mass Spectrometer systems is a plus

Reasoning Ability

Good troubleshooting skills, scientific thinking and teaching skills are required

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability and willingness to travel internationally for including but not limited to trainings, providing internal & customer support, conference presentations

Other Qualifications:

Good presentation skills
