The Rehabilitation and Protection Group (RPG) provides services for the rehabilitation of adult and juvenile offenders and the protection of children and families. As part of the RPG family, Child Protective Service (CPS) provides statutory service and it leads in child protection policies and processes to safeguard the safety and well-being of children and young persons in Singapore. Our work remains very much firmly rooted on keeping children safe from harm, in collaboration with the families and communities we work with.
As a Child Welfare Officer, you will assess the suitability of adoption applicants, investigate youths referred by the Courts for beyond parental control, advocate and drive policies and programme to support and safeguard the well-being of children, youth and their families. You will work in collaboration with a network of sector professionals. Your days will be filled with social investigations, day-to-day assessments, preparation of affidavits and social reports to the Court and handling enquiries on matters administered by Child Welfare. You will contribute meaningfully to multi-disciplinary case discussions, develop, review systems, operational policies and processes on child welfare. You will be supported and encouraged with training and ongoing supervision where you will be challenged to grow in the competencies and disposition required. You will also be guided towards taking leadership of your portfolio as well as in tackling emerging issues innovatively and with compassion. In addition to the core work, you are also expected to take on assignments and developmental projects to review existing frameworks and processes.
Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, psychology or related disciplines in Social Sciences with at least 1-year experience in direct casework with families and children (or 3 years’ experience for Senior role)
You should possess strong analytical, writing, communication and problem solving skills and able to work well with staff, children, youth and their families. You should be forward thinking, receptive to change and able to work under pressure.
Experience in social investigations, assessment and preparation of reports is preferred; internship/ Volunteering experience in working with children/ youths and families is an advantage.
All new appointments will be offered on contract basis.
